Admin. history/Biographical Sketch:
Albert S. Abel was born in Iowa and studied at Harvard University.  He was professor of law at the University of West Virginia before coming to the University of Toronto in 1955. He was knows as a specialist in constitutional law and on environmental issues such as pollution. He died May 6, 1978.

Scope and content: 
Includes correspondence, minutes, course and lecture notes, examinations, law notes, court cases, reports, manuscripts, articles and other material documenting Prof. Abel’s career as professor of law at the University of West Virginia and at the University of Toronto.  Files document his activities relating to examinations, committees in the Faculty of Law, the Commission on University Government, several Senate committees and the Caput, and the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Institute of Business Administration.  Records documenting his activities prior to his tenure at U of T include consultant to the Office of Price Administration in Washington, D.C. (1942).
