Admin. history/Biographical Sketch: George Sidney Brett was born at Britton Ferry in South Wales on August 5, 1879. He attended Oxford University (Christ Church College) from 1898-1902. He came to Canada in 1908 as librarian and lecturer in classics at Trinity College which had recently federated with the University of Toronto. At the end of his first year he was promoted to professor of ethics and ancient philosophy. During this period he was also appointed to the Department of Philosophy at the University as a part-time professor. In 1921 the University appointed him to a full time professorship. He was appointed acting head of the department in 1926-1927 and was confirmed the following year. In 1932 he was appointed dean of the School of Graduate Studies. He died on October 27, 1944.
Scope and content: Lecture notes, articles, addresses, and radio broadcasts on philosophical theme; presentation certificate from students at Government College, Lahore (1908); and biographical sketches and tributes. Includes convocation address "Western University London" n.d.
