Admin. history/ Biographical Sketch: Professional theatre located underneath the quadrangle in Hart House when it opened in 1919.  The first two directors were Roy Mitchell and Bertram Forsyth.  Set designs and costumes by Frederick Coates (1922-23 and 1930-35) and members of the Group of Seven such as Lawren Harris, Arthur Lismer, and J.E.H. MacDonald. 

Scope and content:
Financial and administrative records including those of the Business Manager (1935-1962),and Secretary (1946-1964); nightly reports, prop and costume files for productions, minutes of the Board of Syndics (1920-1965) and Letters Patent; scripts (prompt scripts, unpublished scripts and some original scripts submitted to the theatre;production scrapbooks (1925-1966); correspondence.

Also includes programmes for drama presentations held in Hart House Theatre by university and non-university groups such as the Central Ontario Drama Festival. Minutes, reports, constitution and correspondence of the University of Toronto Drama Committee. Programmes, and miscellaneous printed material for Hart House Theatre.
Also photographs and glass negatives. Photoprints and drawings relating to productions; two Students Administrative Council group photos ca 1915.
