Admin. history/Biographical Sketch:

Ian Dalton is retired professor of electrical engineering at the University of Toronto. Prof. Dalton was the U of T. representative on the Guidance Films Subcommittee of Committee of Ontario Deans of Engineering, and later became Chairman of the Committee.  He guided the project "Getting into Engineering" through to completion.

Scope and content:

This fonds consists of records relating to the history of the Toronto Magnetic and Meteorological Observatory including manuscripts of articles and related research materials, files on the excavation of the site of the old Toronto Observatory.  Included are records relating to the installation of a plaque in honour of Sir John Henry Lefroy, director of the Observatory from 1842-1853.  Graphic materials include colour and black & white photoprints of "The Old Toronto Observatory" by William Armstrong (1852) taken from original watercolour at Atmospheric Environment Service (AES) Downsview, Ontario. Other records in this fonds relate to Prof. Dalton's involvement with the Ontario Engineers Guidance Film Committee (1969-1974) and the 100th Anniversary of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (1973).
