Films & videos

The Archives holds a small number of promotional films documenting the University generally and as well as special events from the 1920s to the 1960s.   The years duing WWII are especially well documented.  The Archives also holds film of many Varsity football games from 1958 to the 1970s.  Later years were captured on video which the Archives also preserves.  Other Varsity teams that are captured in a more limited way include hockey (1973-1980), basketball (1972-1978) and track and field (1961-65).

A large part of the Archives sound and moving images collection are video productions of the University of Toronto Media Centre.  This extensive collection gives evidence to the wide spread use of video starting in the late 1960s for use in classroom instruction. These productions were often done by faculty for use in high school and university lectures.  The Media Center productions also document events on campus including campus tours, convocation, visiting dignitaries, student drama and public lectures.
