Biographical Sketch: Bernard Etkin (1918-2014) studied engineering at the University of Toronto (BASc 1941, MASc 1947).  He taught aeronautical engineering at the University of Toronto from 1942-1983. Etkin was a founding staff member of the Institute of Aerospace Studies (IAS) and he worked as a consultant to industry and government. Etkin’s administrative positions included chair of Engineering Science (1967-1972) and Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (1973-1979). In 2003, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Scope and content: Papers, speeches, reports, notes, correspondence, manuscripts, contracts, lectures, course outlines, and an oral history interview document Etkin’s education in engineering and his career as an aeronautical engineer, professor and university administrator.
