Biographical Sketch: Derek Paul was born in 1929 and was educated at the University of Cambridge (England) and Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario.  From 1953 to 1963, he held positions of Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario.  He joined the University of Toronto as Associate Professor in the Department of Physics in 1964.  He was appointed Professor of Physics in 1976.  In 1981 he was a founding member of the Science for Peace group at the University of Toronto.  He served as Treasurer (1981-1982), Research Director (1982-1984 and 1985-1986), Secretary (1984-1985), Publications Director (1988-1990, 1992-1993), and President (1993-1994).

Scope and content: Correspondence, talks, course and lecture notes, course materials, term papers, drafts of reports on nuclear energy, conference files, minutes, and drafts of articles and addresses documenting career of Derek Paul as a physicist, as a founding member of Science for Peace and as a member of other groups involved in disarmament and peace initiatives. Also includes manuscripts of plays Elizabeth's Ordeal & John the Baptist (and later version titled Forgiven) (1999 and 2001), and Oh Nazareth (1998), poems and manuscript and published copy of children's book entitled Chin (1999).
