Biographical Sketch: Robert Russell Bensley was born near Hamilton, Ontario on 13 November 1867. He received his degrees from the U of T (BA 1889, MB 1892), was a demonstrator in biology from 1892-1901, then, until his retirement in 1937, professor of anatomy at the University of Chicago.  He died in Chicago on 11 June 1956. Sylvia Holton Bensley, daughter-in-law of Robert Russell Bensley, was a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Toronto and a specialist in the field of arthritic diseases.  She died on 24 January, 1972. Ethelbert Lincoln Hill was born in 1863 and received his BA from University College in 1888.  He was a librarian in Guelph, Calgary and Edmonton and died on 10 January, 1960 at age 96.  His daughter was E. Marjorie Hill, the first woman to graduate in architecture from the U of T (1920); a portion of her personal records are at UTARMS.

Scope and content: Correspondence, notices, programmes, articles, press clippings and photoprints documenting the activities of Ethelbert Lincoln Hill [BA 1888] as an undergraduate in Arts at University College, and Robert Russell Bensley [BA 1889, MB 1892].  With Hill, the emphasis is on his athletic achievements, his involvement in student elections, and with the conversazione, and his attendance at the Ontario Normal School in 1901-02.  Included are offprints of articles (1896, 1897) by and a memoir of Bensley; a lithograph of University College, n.d.; photoprints of graduating class in Arts (1887) and of University College Natural Science Association general committee (1886-1887); map of City of Toronto, 188-.
