Biographical Sketch: John Allan Irving was born in 1945 in Vancouver. He earned a BA (Philosophy, 1967) from York University, an MA (Social Work, 1972) from Carleton University, and a PhD (Social Work, 1982) from the University of Toronto. He was a social worker for Ontario’s Ministry of Correctional Services from 1967-1973. He was professor of Social Work at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Toronto, and Widener University (Pennsylvania).

Scope and content: Records documenting Allan Irving's activities as a student in social work, and as a lecturer and professor at the University of Western Ontario (1980-1984) and the University of Toronto (1984-2000).  Included is correspondence, day books, course notes, lecture notes and related teaching material, research files, manuscripts, files relating to administrative activities in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, photoprints, slides, audiotapes, and videos.
