Biographical Sketch: Kenneth William Kirkpatrick McNaught was born in Toronto on November 10, 1918, the son of William Carlton McNaught and Eleanor Sanderson.  He attended Upper Canada College and the University of Toronto (BA 1941, MA 1946, PhD 1950). His doctoral dissertation “James Shaver Woodsworth: 1874-1921. From Social Gospel to Social Democracy” was published as A Prophet in Politics: A Biography of J.S. Woodsworth (University of Toronto Press, 1959). McNaught joined the faculty of the University of Toronto in 1959 and taught predominately Canadian history until his retirement in 1984. He was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 1996. McNaught died on June 2, 1997.

Scope and content: Correspondence, manuscripts, books and papers, notes, lectures and works of art documenting Kenneth McNaught's personal life, education at the University of Toronto and professional life as university professor of history at Winnipeg and Toronto. Includes manuscript for Conscience and History: A Memoir  (University of Toronto Press, 1999).
