Biographical Sketch: Born in 1924 in Essex England, Peter Yates received degrees from the University of London, Dalhousie University and Yale University. After teaching at Harvard from 1952-60, he was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto where he remained throughout his career. His research interests included the photochemistry of organic molecules and the structural implications of spectroscopic data.  Yates died on November 16, 1992.

Scope and content: Correspondence, agendas, proposals, reports, manuscripts, research data and notes, publications, exams, and other materials documenting Peter Yates research and teaching activities as professor of chemistry. Includes records created by Yates as editor of the Canadian Journal of Chemistry.
