Biographical Sketch: Robin Harris graduated from his BA in English Language Literature in 1941 and his MA in English in 1947 from the University of Toronto. After completing his PhD in 1952 at the University of Michigan, he returned to Toronto to teach in the Department of English. Over the next 30 years, he held various administrative and academic posts including Director of the President's Committee on Policy and Planning (1959-1962), Principal of University College (1963-1971) and Professor of Higher Education (1964-1985). In 1971, Harris was appointed University by President Bissell. Harris retired as Professor Emeritus in 1985.

Scope and content: Most of the records in this fonds document Harris' research in the history of Higher Education, a subject on which he published widely and gave numerous addresses. Some limited documentation provides researchers with some information on his contributions to several administrative posts. There are also early lecture files on English literature which document his early teaching career and some files relating to the researching and writing of the university history although most of those records are in the records of the University Historian. Finally there are original university records collected by Harris regarding the University of Toronto Faculty Assoication and its predecessors.
