Biographical Sketch: Thomas Howarth was an architecture student at the Universities of Manchester and Glasgow, a professor and administrator at the University of Manchester and the University of Toronto, a professional architect, and an authority on Scottish architect Charles Rennie Macintosh (1868-1928).

Scope and content: Correspondence, notes, publications, photoprints, architectural plans, diaries, lectures, administrative files, subject files, audiotapes, videos, drawings, student work, slides, film, and other materials documenting the career of Thomas Howarth as an architect, professor, administrator, and authority on Charles Rennie Macintosh. Includes materials relating to the research for and publication of his book, Charles Rennie Macintosh and the Modern Movement (1952). Also includes material relating to the Commonwealth Association of Architects and other professional associations, the Faculty of Architecture (1961-1992), and the National Capital Commission (1968-1974).
