Admin. history: The Faculty Wives Association established the University of Toronto Central Committee on Women’s Service in the fall of 1939. Several committees including a workroom committee and a refugees sub-committee were immediately established. The Committee for British Overseas Children, the purpose of which was to provide homes for evacuated children of faculty members from British universities, was established in the summer of 1940. The Women's War Service Committee disbanded in May 1946 but the Committee for British Overseas Children continued its work until 1949.

Scope and content: Correspondence, minutes, financial records, constitution, reports, press coverage, and other material documenting the activities of the Women's War Service Committee. The majority of the records relate to the Central Committee and the Committee for British Oveseas Children.
